How do I start a Pure Desire ministry at my church?

Developing a Pure Desire ministry in your church is a process that is doable in any congregation. The beauty of a Pure Desire ministry is it can be primarily staffed, and facilitated by lay individuals. The individuals who have been fighting sexual struggles for years and get healed become your most effective leaders. Of course a church staff member or a qualified lay person should oversee the ministry so that there is some sense of connection to the senior pastor.

Step One - Awareness

At this stage the book, Pure Desire, should be purchased along with the introductory DVD. This is the Pure Desire “Starter Kit.” Individuals who are interested in developing the ministry should be recruited and begin viewing the DVD and discussing the book.

Your purpose in step one is to identify potential leaders and develop a common understanding of sexual bondages and struggles from a biblical perspective.

Once you have identified the potential leaders and feel as if God is directing you to develop such a ministry then plans should be made to schedule a teleconference with Dr. Ted and Diane Roberts.

Step Two - Training

The training part of the development is the longest part of the foundational process. It is critical that the leaders are adequately trained and an effective strategy be developed for your church. At this stage the Pure Desire

Workbook and all the DVDs of the Pure Desire Seminar should be purchased along with the scheduling of three follow-up teleconference calls.

One call for the development of healthy small groups.
A second call to construct an effective relapse plan.
And the final call to discuss any legal issues that may be in question concerning the ministry.

This process of viewing and discussing the DVDs as you progress through the book and workbook should take from three to twelve months depending on the individual church. Speed is not the issue. Adequate preparation and coordination within the church has to be paramount.

Step Three - The Launch

This is where all your hard work pays off! There are an infinite number of ways to launch the ministry depending on the culture of your church. Here are several techniques that have been very effective in other churches.

Coordinate the launch as a follow-up from a Sexy Christians seminar at your church or in the local area. You can refer to our website for a description of the Sexy Christians seminar and schedule.
Launch the ministry through a weekend service testimony of a couple or individual who has experienced healing and will be part of the ministry.
Launch the ministry through a men’s retreat. Have specific teaching on the issue and testimonies from men who will be part of the leadership in the ministry.

Step Four - Building the Ministry

Our nation is under attack with respect to our sexuality therefore this ministry is going to be an on going need in your community. And once again Pure Desire is unique in the fact that it becomes self-energizing if constructed correctly. The men who go through your groups become the future leaders. It takes approximately two to three years for someone to go through the healing process and then they can become the deeply committed leaders of the future.

Also in this process, the women’s aspect of Pure Desire needs to be developed. We have developed effective resources to make this possible. In addition it would be recommended that continuing education for your leaders takes place and an excellent resource is the continuing education teleconferences we will make available.
