Developing a Pure Desire Ministry

Step One

Order the Conquer Series DVD Set and Study Guide, and contact Pure Desire (PD) Ministries regarding hosting a PD University at Step Eight. Pure Desire books events 8-12 months out, so contacting Trevor Winsor now would provide an strategy for what it looks like to host an event that would train your leaders and help create a culture of grace in your church. In lieu of hosting a PD University, you may send a group of leaders to a PD University already scheduled. Visit our list of University events happening across the country.

Step Two

Watch the Conquer Series DVD Set as a church leadership team (staff and ministry leaders). Consider partnering with Pure Desire to provide pastoral care for your leaders through our PD Leaders program.

Step Three

Contact your Regional Group Leader (RGL) to become familiar with Pure Desire groups.

Step Four

Create a leadership team (four to five people) of men and leadership team of women (as available) for the purpose of developing and training them to be your first PD group leaders.

Step Five

Collaborate with your Pure Desire Men’s and Women’s Regional Group Leaders to receive support as you train your group leaders.

Step Six

Launch your Pure Desire groups using one or more of the following methods:

  • Present a sermon series (three to five weeks) on sexual purity.
  • Invite a couple to share their testimony of healing and restoration from sex or porn addiction.
  • Show the Conquer Series trailer. Provide an anonymous method by which men can sign up to be a part of a Pure Desire group, possibly a phone number to call providing the specific time and location of the meeting.
  • Host a men’s retreat and invite a grace-oriented and knowledgeable guest speaker that will encourage the men to become part of a Pure Desire group whether they have struggled with purity in the past, are struggling now, or are married to a woman who is struggling.
  • Host a women’s retreat and invite a grace-oriented and knowledgeable guest speaker that will encourage the women to become part of a Pure Desire group whether they have struggled with purity in the past, are struggling now, or are married to a man who is struggling.

Step Seven

Begin advertising your first showing of the six-week Conquer Series for men. Promote the series to fathers, lay leaders, and friends of those who might be struggling with pornography. Use the Conquer Series promo materials to promote your event and to invite men to the showing.

Step Eight

Host or attend a PD University event to train group leaders, inform your church about the neurochemistry and theology of sex addiction, and give parents hope for their children’s future. Work with other churches in your area to bring awareness, hope, and practical application to the battle raging in our churches.

Step Nine

Identify, recruit, and train a small group (four to six) of women to lead the Betrayal and Beyond and Eight Pillars to Freedom groups. Have them walk through the materials listed below as a small group.

Step Ten

Launch the Betrayal & Beyond groups for women who are struggling with betrayal issues relating to sex addiction after the men’s groups have been started.

Step Eleven

Launch Eight Pillars to Freedom for women who are struggling with love and/or sex addiction.

Step Twelve

Offer Hope for Men groups to men who are struggling with issues relating to their spouse’s love and/or sexual addiction.

Step Thirteen

Launch Living Free groups for college-aged men.

Launch groups for high school students: Top Gun for guys and Behind the Mask for girls.

This ministry process does not look the same in every church. Though we recommend this order of implementation, it does not always come easily. If you are unable to follow this process, please don’t hesitate to contact your RGL to discuss your specific circumstance, challenges, and needs.

If the pastoral staff needs help understanding the ministry or implementation, they may set up a time to confer with our Executive Director. Appointments can be scheduled through our office at info@puredesire.org or 503.489.0230.
