We talk to Heather Kolb who is an author, speaker, adjunct professor, and is our Neuroscience Professional at Pure Desire. We talk to Heather about the nature of sexual addiction and how to identify if it really is an addiction. Heather also gives us tools and tips to battling this addiction.
I appreciate Trevor, Nick and Heather Kolb’s insights. Key take-aways: a lot of comorbidity associated with addictive behavior – may only masturbate once a month but then swap it out with compulsive eating or compulsive shopping or compulsive exercise or online gambling or fantasy sports the rest of the month; Need to redefine how we look at addiction – it’s a symptom that defines your struggle and what you’re going to have to do to get out of it. It does NOT define you or your identity; lastly, the church needs to face this together. We all have some sort of addiction in our life that is idolatrous and puts something above God in our life. You can still love Jesus and still get caught up in something unhealthy.
