GroupsTools 5 minutes to read

At its inception, the Conquer Series was revolutionary in helping individuals who struggle with pornography and sexual addiction find healing. Like never before, men were learning the secret truth about negative sexual behaviors and pornography use: it’s not just a moral issue, it’s a brain issue.

Now, in two 5-week volumes, the Conquer Series has been redesigned and enhanced with more tools, accountability, and practical application. Here’s a spotlight of the new features you’ll experience as you walk out your healing.

The original Conquer Series was amazing—packed full of biblical teaching and practical application tools to help men walk in freedom. It’s hard to imagine that it could get any better. But you know what? It did!

Updated Study Guides

Study Guides

As you watch each DVD lesson, the study guide provides an outline with highlights of the core content, Tools to Conquer, summary points, and quotes from many of the Christian leaders who contributed to the Conquer Series.

In your group each week, you will answer a few discussion questions based on the lesson. No matter where you are in your healing journey—new to the battle or have spent several years in the fight—regardless of the potential benefits, participating in a group can be intimidating. It is fearful. It can feel overwhelming.

It can take time, often weeks, for each person to feel safe in the group; safe enough to share their struggles. This is one of the best aspects of the new 10-week format. Even if it takes a couple weeks for guys to acclimate and feel safe in the group, they still have several weeks left to cultivate relationships, create a foundation of accountability, and take charge of their healing.

Breaking isolation is a key component to healing. For this reason, accountability and connection are an important part of your daily tasks. Each week, you will connect with every member of your Conquer Group. The guys in your group will become your infrastructure: they will be your ongoing support when you feel triggered, when life feels out of control, and when you are approaching relapse. You are not alone in this battle. Your Conquer Group will help you develop an understanding that lifelong freedom is found in community.

The 7-Day Mission is your battle plan for the week, challenging you through action steps and journal exercises. This will be instrumental in maintaining forward motion throughout the series. Whether it’s implementing an accountability software on all your devices, preparing for battle each night, or identifying limbic lies, the 7-Day Mission provides the opportunity for continuous change and growth

New Journal

Journal

The Conquer Series Journal was created as a companion resource to the DVDs and study guides. It was designed to help us understand our addictive behaviors at a deeper level, challenging us to pursue a depth of personal healing like never before; a healing that comes from a heart knowledge of who we are in Christ.

Plan to spend time in your journal on a daily basis. Each day, you will be given a new scripture to focus on, using the S.W.O.R.D. Drill, allowing the Lord to speak to you through His Word. True healing comes when we take the opportunity to let God’s Word saturate our hearts and minds.

You will also evaluate where you are on the FASTER Scale on a daily basis. Displayed through a creative emoji scale, and based on the behavioral descriptions provided, you will identify how you are feeling:

???? Restoration

???? Forgetting Priorities

???? Anxiety

???? Speeding Up

???? Ticked Off

???? Exhausted

???? Relapse

As we use this tool, gaining a sense of where we are emotionally, it can help us identify patterns in our behavior. If we can recognize the behaviors and triggers that lead to relapse, we can better understand how to prevent future relapse.

Also included each week is a Journal Exercise. This can be tough for many men who don’t consider themselves a “writing” type of guy, but committing to this exercise will be a huge step toward healing. Journaling can provide a deeper level of insight into our behaviors, triggers, and urges that reveal the truth behind why we do what we do. One of the best parts of journaling is that it allows us to be present; not just living in the moment, but learning to live intentionally.

Initially, this may feel uncomfortable. It will feel vulnerable. Here’s why: It’s one thing to think something, but keep it safely hidden in the depths of your mind. It is another thing to risk putting your thoughts down on paper; where they can be seen and where they become real. However, it is a critical part of the process, especially as it pertains to renewing the mind. Studies have shown that journaling can create new neural pathways in the brain, contributing to life-changing renewal.

To help you stay organized and consistently working toward health, the Conquer Series Journal includes a weekly schedule, your Commitment To Change, the Group Check-In, and more.

These three resources—the Conquer Series DVDs, Study Guides, and Journal—work together forming a complete trifecta, if you will; designed to encourage and reinforce your journey toward sexual purity.

New Leader’s Guide

Leader’s Guide

For those of you who have committed to not only your own healing but helping other men find freedom from sexual bondage, the Conquer Series Leader’s Guide is for you!

As a Conquer Group Leader, your primary goal is to facilitate the group meetings, guide the discussion, and encourage participation. You DO NOT need a background in psychology or counseling to lead a group. In fact, many of the best leaders are those men who are willing to be real: wounded and broken by the battle, but ready to engage in lifelong change and growth.

The Leader’s Guide will provide greater details, explanations, and instructions for many aspects of the group, such as:

  • Guidelines for the leader and members
  • Using the FASTER Scale and Double Bind effectively
  • Breaking isolation through the Call Schedule
  • Efficient time management and the group structure

In preparation for your weekly Conquer Group, review the lesson highlights so that you can better serve the men in your group. As you connect with them throughout the week, take advantage of the Weekly Reminders section to encourage them toward healing. Lastly, there is a weekly Leadership Tip, so that you feel encouraged and strengthened in your leadership abilities

I hope you are as excited as I am about the new Conquer Series. Together, through ministries such as Pure Desire and resources like the Conquer Series, God is equipping His Church to do amazing things! Like never before, we have the opportunity to break the chains of sexual bondage and create a revival of freedom in the Church.
