Healing Together: the Power of Group

By Pure Desire Team

Groups / Healing / Recovery

Much of what we do at Pure Desire is based on a biblical and clinical foundation that shapes our recovery and healing philosophy. This also applies to our group approach, which is not just beneficial but central to sustainable recovery from sexual addiction and healing from betrayal trauma.

When men and women have a safe, grace-filled place to begin their healing, make sense of their story, and share their story with others, it changes them. For many people who join a group, it’s a pivotal moment and life-giving experience. For others, it empowers them to lead and multiply groups, spreading hope and facilitating healing in their community.

Why Groups Work

The effectiveness of a group lies in its community aspect. It is very possible for men and women to find true healing in the group setting—not only through professional counseling. In a group, you’re not just receiving one-on-one therapy; you’re building relationships and sharing your journey with peers who understand and support you without judgment. This communal healing breaks down walls of shame and isolation.

While counseling can be a great starting place for many people who are pursuing recovery and healing, counseling alone can lead to feelings of isolation. However, groups provide a supportive community where you realize you’re not alone in your struggles. This realization is crucial because healing from addiction and trauma often requires a community where you can be vulnerable and honest—essential components of deep healing.

How Groups Function

At Pure Desire, our approach to recovery is holistic and dynamic. We don’t just form groups; we create communities that grow and replicate. Individuals who find healing in groups often go back to their church and start new groups, creating a ripple effect of healing. In many ways, our ministry becomes the bridge, providing essential support between professional therapy and personal spiritual growth.

We offer recovery groups for men and women who struggle with compulsive sexual behaviors and support groups for men and women who’ve experienced betrayal. We also offer recovery groups for men and women who are single, and/or college-aged, who want to experience healing and a game plan for living in sexual health.

A Vision for Future Healing

Our entire ministry is designed to funnel individuals into groups. This is because true change happens within the context of relationships. Our vision statement reflects this commitment, highlighting the transformation that occurs when churches create a sustainable group ministry.

Whether you’re struggling with addictive behaviors or the aftermath of betrayal, our groups offer a pathway to recovery grounded in proven practices and genuine community support.

If you’re ready to take the next step toward healing, consider joining a Pure Desire group. By sharing your story in a safe, supportive environment, you can begin the journey to recovery and healing, and rediscover the joy of living in health and freedom.
